'Land,' acrylic on (6) 14 x 18 canvases, OAD 42 x 36, 2009.
This is the third painting in the Five Elements series that I have been working on. The previous two are: ‘Fire,’ and ‘Water.’ This one, ‘Land,’ is painted on (6) separate canvases. In its way, the canvases plus the viewer are representative of land masses - continents, if you will. This is intentionally devised to draw the viewer into the painting; making him or her an integral part of the whole. Each of the paintings in this series intend to connect to each other and the viewer in a specially designed way. For example, ‘Fire,’ and ‘Water,’ were painted together as one large canvas before being divided - thus exploring the way I see the relationship between the two elements. Usually I shy away from telling the viewer how to look at or what to look for in my paintings, but with this series, I think of it as an additional point of view which may enhance the viewer’s experience.
I hope you enjoy this new piece.
‘Fire,’ and ‘Water,’ can be found in the gallery section.
